This week was all about Growth! We started the week by organizing our notebooks. Moving forward every successful student should bring their math notebook to class. We set goals this week that we will track in our notebooks, and many students identified they want good grades this year! First step to do that is being organized!
Second step of growth is working through tough problems. We started POWs this week to help with this. Problem of the Week (POWs) are word problems that use skills we have learned previously and rely on problem solving skills. These problems should be worked on every night for homework with a paragraph explanation of the math. Students receive credit even if the answer is wrong but they have a full explanation. So everyone can be successful!
We then started looking at patterns using rods to create a big beam or a set of steps. We took that data and made tables and graphs! These graphs were both linear and non-linear! Our focus was explaining the changes we saw in the graph and the table. This is challenging, and we will continue to improve our abilities and grow!
The week ended with a reflection to see how the second week of school went and a Notebook check!
Next week we will have a Comprehension check to assess our learning and move on to summarizing the data!
