YES! You read that right! This week marked our adventure into major concepts in 8th grade! Though these concepts were introduced in 7th, we continue to build on them and solidify our understanding this year. Those concepts include finding slope, identifying y-intercept, and writing the Equation for a line. Students are asked to write an equation for linear growth from tables, graphs and words.
Feeling nervous about these topics? Thats ok! There are LOADS of resources on the internet. I've even collected a few of my favorites! See the heading at the top "Concepts to Practice"? When you click on that choose "Slope, EOL videos and practice". This will bring up MANY of my favorite links to practice and review these concepts. Included is the video was watched this week "Rise up Run out" a math song about how to write linear equations!
Because these topics are used so many times during the school year, we took some time summarizing our learning in a graphic organizer in our notebook. The math notebook is essential to our learning in 8th grade. It not only has much of the work we do, but explanations and helpful hints on completing our work. To see what the teacher's notebook looks like, click "8th grade curriculum" then "notebook" to see the video.
This week we will assess our learning of slope, y intercept and equation of a line! We will also look at a special type of relationship called "inverse Variance." BIG words that make our BRAINS BIG!
